Learning

At our school, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.

Strong foundations

Every student deserves a focused and positive start. We focus on building the essential skills that help students thrive academically, socially, and personally. By strengthening core learning abilities and nurturing a positive mindset, we empower students to approach challenges with confidence and curiosity.

Our programs are designed to support students at every stage of their development. Through structured learning, personalised guidance, and a warm, encouraging environment, children gain the tools they need to excel in school and beyond. As their skills grow, so does their determination, resilience, and belief in their own potential.

We prepare students to be future focused learners and global citizens. With strong foundations in place, your child is equipped to navigate new experiences, embrace opportunities, and build a lifelong love of learning.

High-quality education

Every student has their own interests, strengths, and learning style. That’s why we offer a wide range of subjects designed to match what students enjoy and what they’re eager to explore. From core academic skills to enrichment opportunities, our programs give students the freedom to discover what truly excites them.

Our skilled teachers take the time to understand each student as an individual. Through personalised guidance, encouragement, and thoughtful instruction, we help students uncover what they love to learn about—and support them as they grow in confidence and capability. Whether they’re building foundational skills or stretching toward new challenges, every student receives the support they need to reach their potential.

By nurturing curiosity and celebrating progress, we help students succeed in school life and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Inclusive and personalised learning

Every student learns in their own way, and our teachers are committed to honouring those differences. We tailor our approach to match each student’s needs, interests, and pace of learning, ensuring they feel supported every step of the way.

By creating an environment where students feel understood and encouraged, our teachers help students build confidence, develop strong learning habits, and discover what they’re truly capable of. With personalised guidance and thoughtful instruction, every student is empowered to grow, succeed, and thrive—both in the classroom and beyond.

Extension opportunities

Some students are ready for deeper challenges—and we’re committed to helping them grow. Through our Inspire - [Placeholder] (HPGE) approach, we provide open‑ended tasks, targeted extension opportunities, and tailored support that stretches thinking and deepens learning.

Our teachers design learning experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, and higher‑order thinking. Students are guided to explore ideas more independently, tackle complex problems, and engage with content that pushes them beyond the standard curriculum.

By recognising each child’s strengths and providing the right level of challenge, we help every student work toward their full potential. Whether they’re accelerating quickly or seeking greater depth, our HPGE approach ensures they feel stimulated, supported, and inspired to achieve their best.

What students learn

Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.

Our subjects

At Oatley Public School, students engage in a broad range of learning across all key subject areas, including English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Human Society and Its Environment, Creative Arts, and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education. Religion and ethics

At our school, students can take part in special religious education (SRE) or special education in ethics (SEE) classes, depending on what’s available. These classes are delivered by approved providers.

When enrolling your child, you’ll be able to choose an option from the approved providers offered at our school. Students not attending SRE or SEE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities.

You’re welcome to change your choice at any time. Just let us know in writing or use the SRE/SEE Participation Update Form

High Potential and Gifted Education

At Oatley Public School, we support high potential and gifted students by providing opportunities to extend and challenge their learning. Teachers identify students through ongoing assessment and observation, recognising strengths in areas such as creativity, leadership, problem solving and sport.

Learning is adjusted through flexible grouping, open-ended tasks and targeted extension, ensuring students remain engaged and continue to grow.
